The city grew drastically during the 1940s, with the formation of hill air force base, and in the 1950s with the nationwide increase in suburb and community populations and has been steadily growing since then. Clearfield is a principal city of the ogden-clearfield, utah metropolitan statistical area, which includes all of davis, morgan, and weber counties. Clearfield city has a total land area of 7.8 square miles, and a population of 30,112 as of the 2010 census, making it the third largest city in davis county, behind layton and bountiful. This creates a population density of 1498.1 people per square kilometer, or 3860.5 people per square mile. Clearfield city has an average elevation of 4,327 feet according to the 2010 united states census, in the city of clearfield there were 30,112 people living in 9,595 households, of which 76.5% were families. The population density was 3,950 per square mile, with a total land area of 7.8 miles. Of the population 25 years and older, 15.8% have earned a bachelors housing units were vacant in 2010, with only 1.1% of those for sale.
