Greensboro in the piedmont region of central north carolina were built to intersect at this city. In 1808, was planned around a central courthouse square to succeed guilford court house as the county seat. According to the united states census bureau, the city has a total area of 131.8 square miles, of which 126.5 square miles is land and 5.3 square miles, or 4.01%, is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 269,666 people; 111,731 households; and 63,244 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,131.7 people per square mile.
