Lansing is the capital of the u.s. State of michigan. It is mostly in ingham county, although portions of the city extend west into eaton county and north into clinton county. Lansing is the only u.s. State capital that is not also a county seat. The seat of government of ingham county is mason, but the county maintains some offices in lansing. Lansing is the centerpiece of a region of michigan known as mid-michigan or central michigan. As of the census of 2010, there were 114,297 people, 48,450 households, and 26,234 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,174.9 per square mile. There were 54,181 housing units at an average density of 1,505.0 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 61.2% white, 23.7% african american, 0.8% native american, 3.7% asian, 0.04% pacific islander, 4.3% from other races, and 6.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or latino of any race were 12.5% of the population. Foreign-born residents made up 8.3% of the population.
