About Rapid City
Rapid city is the second most populous city in south dakota and the county seat of pennington county. Named after rapid creek, on which the city is established, it is set against the eastern slope of the black hills mountain range. The population was 67,956 as of the 2010 census. As of the census of 2010, there were 67,956 people, 28,586 households, and 16,957 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,226.4 inhabitants per square mile. There were 30,254 housing units at an average density of 546.0 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 80.4% white, 1.1% african american, 12.4% native american, 1.0% asian, 0.1% pacific islander, 0.7% from other races, and 4.1% from two or more races.
