About Richmond

Richmond and the greater richmond region. Richmond was incorporated in 1742 and has been an independent city since 1871. As of the 2010 census, the citys speech in 1775 at st. Johns first successful electric streetcar systems. The jackson ward neighborhood is a traditional hub of african-american commerce and culture. Richmonds highest navigable point. The piedmont region is characterized by relatively low, rolling hills, and lies between the low, flat tidewater region and the blue ridge mountains. Significant bodies of water in the region include the james river, the appomattox river, and the chickahominy river. As of the 2010 united states census, there were 204,214 people residing in the city. 50.6% were black or african american, 40.8% white, 5.0% asian, 0.3% native american, 0.1% pacific islander, 3.6% of some other race and 2.3% of two or more races. 6.3% were hispanic or latino.
