About Cincinnati
Cincinnati ( sin-sih-nat-ee ) is a major city in the u.s. State of ohio, and is the government seat of hamilton county. Settled in 1788, the city is located at the northern side of the confluence of the licking and ohio rivers, the latter of which marks the state line with kentucky. The city is the economic and cultural hub of the cincinnati metropolitan area, the fastest growing economic power in the midwestern united states based on increase of economic output, which had a population of 2,190,209 as of the 2018 census estimates. By the end of the 19th century, with the shift from steamboats to railroads drawing off freight shipping, trade patterns had altered and cincinnatis largest institution of higher education, the university of cincinnati, was founded in 1819 as a municipal college and is now ranked as one of the 50 largest in the united states. Cincinnati is home to historic architecture with many structures in the urban core having remained intact for 200 years. In the late 1800s, cincinnati was commonly referred to as the, due mainly to such ambitious architectural projects as the music hall, cincinnatian hotel, and shillito department store. Cincinnati is the birthplace of william howard taft, the 27th president of the united states. In 1950, cincinnati reached its peak population of over 503,000 residents, but has been losing population in every census count since that time. In the late 20th century industrial restructuring caused a loss of jobs. According to the census bureaus population is 378,259, after a drill-down study was performed by an independent, non-profit group based in washington, d.c.
